Terra Nova

Last night I watched the 2 hour premeir of Terr Nova. The premise is that it is the 22nd century, Earth is on the edge of total environmental collapse. Scientists have discovered a rip in the timeline which they have been using to send people 85 million years into the past. Their job, to set up a new colony and start over. A new Earth, Terra Nova. The story starts with the Shannon family being selected for the 7th pilgramage to Terra Nova.

The show itself leaves a bit to be desired in the acting department, as well as the writing is a bit corny and land in some areas. Troubled family getting a "new start" is not a new story arc, and it seems forced at times. The CGI and green screening is a bit amature, considering the advanced state of the two it would seem like they could have put a bit more work into it.

The action scenes do get a bit intense, as fighting dinosaurs does. This is the main reason I was interested in it. Wether or not I stick with it is yet to be determined, but it does have my attention for now.

Royal Alberta Museum

Hello,

A quick background story, our office, Architecture ATB, has been shortlisted into the top 4 for the new Royal Alberta Museum project here in Edmonton.

In order to not be biased here is a link to all the submissions. Have a read through those and look at the pictures, the 4 pictures should be all the same views for each building.

Once you have done that you can head here, to the Edmonton Journals site and vote for your favorite. While you make you selection might I point out that PCL is the company that is teamed up with my office.

Thank you for your time.

Social Media

This is just a quick copy and paste of my thoughts with social media that I did up a while ago. My brother says it is very essay-esque, but again, I don't profess to be an English scholar.

Everything I ever needed to know...

Anyone who knows me well or has gotten into a discussion about the benefits of gaming knows I truly believe that they are more than just a game. A lot of the points below come through subliminally, and might go unnoticed to the average person, but that's where I, and this blog, come in. Read on for what games are really teaching you...

Online Community

To the average person the online community is a very foreign concept. They generally have no idea what kind of bonds are forged and to what extent the friendships go.

How to protect the ones you love...

Along with the ESRB all 3 systems have some level of parental controls that are accessible through the systems main menus. These can help you manage what content is accessible on the system and allow you to put in some form of password to protect it. I will give a brief explanation on the Nintendo and Playstation controls, along with a link to all 3's web site's parental control pages. I will go into more depth with the Xbox's as that is not only my personal system, but also because I think it is the better of the three for control.

What your kids are playing...

I am getting to the age where I now know a lot more parents, some of them are fellow gamers, others have never picked up a controller in their life. In a world where video games are out selling most blockbuster movies and more and more game consoles coming to homes there might be a few of you with concerns.

Maybe you read something in the news about how video games are destroying the very fabric of family values or some shit like that. Well they aren't, those families were doomed from the start.
